UAE Visa Documents & Photo Requirements

Prepare clear passport scans, suitable photographs and certificate copies for UAE applications, with official ICP, GDRFA and MOFA source links.

Choose the application before preparing files

A family entry permit, renewal, Emirates ID replacement and certificate attestation each have their own checklist. Confirm the transaction and the receiving authority first. Family visa requirements and renewal requirements explain the difference.

Passport scans and validity

GDRFA lists at least six months of passport validity for a family entry permit. Check expiry before starting that application. Scan the full identity page with all corners visible; compare the name, date of birth and passport number against the typed form.

Keep the original scan. If a portal needs a smaller file, make a separate compressed copy and inspect it at normal reading size. Avoid glare, cropped page edges and unreadable passport numbers.

Photographs for Emirates ID and residence applications

ICP photo guidance calls for a recent, sharp image with a white background, a straight face and neutral expression. Eyes must be visible without shadows or reflections; sunglasses and hats are not accepted. Follow any permitted-attire instructions for your case.

Use the size, file format and upload limit shown in the actual application. Passport and ID transactions can show different requirements; do not treat a single pixel size as universal. Check ICP’s photo guidance before submission.

Marriage, birth and education certificates

MOFA accepts an original in Arabic or English, or a legally certified translation. Required prior attestations must be completed. The immigration department receiving the certificate can have additional language requirements; MOFA attestation alone does not resolve those.

For a new family visa, prepare the relationship certificate that applies to your dependent. Include endorsement pages and reverse-side stamps in your scans. See the attestation guide and legal translation guidance.

A practical check before uploading

  • Use one clearly named file per document, such as sponsor-passport or child-birth-certificate.
  • Check every page, stamp and date at a readable size.
  • Separate originals from resized submission copies.
  • Match spellings across the passport, certificates and application.
  • Keep the submission receipt and application reference.

These are preparation tips. The portal’s current upload rules determine the accepted format and maximum file size.

If a document or photo is rejected

Read the returned amendment request before uploading again. Identify whether the issue concerns photo quality, personal details, missing endorsements or eligibility. Correct the requested item and retain the reference so the amendment can be matched to the same application.
