There is no single document checklist that fits every Dubai family residence case. The sponsor's status, relationship to the dependent, where documents were issued and whether the applicant is inside or outside the UAE can affect the required documents.
Before collecting documents
Confirm the exact application route first. This prevents unnecessary attestation, translation or repeat document work. For certificates issued abroad, see our UAE attestation guide.
Sponsor documents
- Passport, residence visa and Emirates ID
- Tenancy contract or proof of accommodation
- Salary certificate or employment contract, as applicable
- Any additional proof requested for your visa category
Spouse documents
- Passport with enough validity
- Passport-size photo
- Attested marriage certificate, with translation if required by the receiving authority
Children's documents
- Passport and photo for each child
- Birth certificate, attested and translated where needed
After approval
Depending on the case, the process can include a medical fitness test and an Emirates ID application. Our Emirates ID service helps with the latter.
Check your case
Requirements change and vary by sponsor category. Send us your details and our family visa team will confirm the current checklist.
Salary and family eligibility
For a straightforward spouse or child enquiry, QuickDocs uses AED 4,000 as the clear minimum salary message. Cases below that amount need an individual eligibility check. Sons can normally be sponsored up to age 25, while unmarried daughters can be sponsored without the same age limit.
Do English certificates need Arabic translation?
Confirm the receiving authority’s language requirement before ordering a translation. An English certificate is not a guarantee that translation will be waived. Attestation and translation are separate checks; use the requirement for your exact application route.
Investor or partner sponsor documents
Investor and partner sponsors can have a different supporting-document checklist from salaried employees. Depending on the residence and company category, this can include the partnership agreement or MOA, valid trade licence and applicable partner/company documents.
Parents sponsorship: tenancy matters
For parents, current GDRFA Dubai guidance includes an attested tenancy contract suitable for the number of family members. Parent sponsorship also has additional financial and documentary conditions, so it should be checked separately from spouse or child sponsorship.
New visa for a child: prepare the attested birth certificate
GDRFA family entry-permit requirements list an attested birth certificate. If the certificate was issued outside the UAE, check the correct attestation route before starting the new visa application.
Inside or outside the UAE?
Include the dependent's current location when preparing the checklist. Inside-country and outside-country applications can follow different steps and have different government charges.
Final checks before submission
- Compare names, dates of birth and passport numbers across every document.
- Check passport expiry before paying for the application. GDRFA's family entry-permit page lists at least six months of passport validity.
- Use clear, complete scans; keep certificate stamps and endorsements visible.
- Confirm the required certificate language and attestation route for the receiving authority.
- Identify whether this is a new visa, renewal or newborn case and confirm the dependent's current location.
- For parents, a partner/investor sponsor or a custody case, request the category-specific checklist.
Example: preparing a spouse application
Create separate folders for sponsor identity and income documents, the spouse's passport and photo, and the marriage certificate with its endorsements. Confirm the checklist before arranging additional translation. Then use the cost guide to ask for an itemized quote.
Frequently asked questions
Do certificates from my home country need attestation?
Usually, documents issued outside the UAE such as marriage and birth certificates are attested before use. We explain the route for your country.
How valid should passports be?
Passports should have sufficient remaining validity. Check before you apply, or ask us to check for you.
Is the checklist the same for everyone?
No. It depends on the sponsor's category and the relationship of the family member.
